1) What motivated you to take a course abroad? How did you find out about IBS Americas?
I’ve always had the desire to broaden my academic and professional horizons. Taking a course abroad would give me exposure to new teaching methodologies, different cultures, and global market trends. I found IBS Americas through online research and recommendations from colleagues who had already participated in the programs. Later on, I received an email inviting me to apply, and I didn’t hesitate.
2) What is your academic background, and what were your expectations for the international program?
I hold degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, and Mathematics, along with a master’s in Business Administration. When I enrolled in the program, I expected to enhance both my theoretical and practical knowledge, and to experience an immersive learning environment of the highest standard.
3) How did you choose the course and university? What were the deciding factors?
I chose the course Advanced Topics in Financial Decisions and Corporate Policy because it aligned perfectly with my professional goals. I also considered the university’s reputation, the course syllabus, and the networking opportunities the program offered.
4) What were the main challenges you faced being in another country, with a different language and classmates from various nationalities?
Adapting to the language and cultural differences at first was challenging. However, engaging with classmates from different countries turned out to be an enriching experience that contributed to the development of my intercultural skills.
5) How would you evaluate the quality of teaching, infrastructure, and resources offered by the university?
The quality of teaching was excellent — the professors were highly qualified with solid experience in both the corporate world and academia, and the classes had a strong practical approach. The university’s infrastructure was outstanding, with well-equipped classrooms, a large and up-to-date library, and dedicated support for international students.
6) What were the main lessons and skills you developed during the course?
I developed a more global mindset, strengthened my leadership abilities, and improved my communication in a multicultural environment. I also gained technical knowledge that is essential for my career.
7) What places did you have the opportunity to visit during your free time?
During my free time, I explored iconic places like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Disneyland, the Grand Canyon, the Port of Los Angeles, and several other tourist attractions. I also got to experience the local culture and try different foods from around the country.
8) How were your experiences during the lectures and company visits?
The lectures were incredibly enriching, delivered by Vivian Rhoads and Eric McDermott — seasoned professionals who shared highly relevant insights with the class. The visit to Haaker Equipment Company stood out as a major highlight, providing a practical view of how the concepts we learned in the classroom are applied in the corporate world.
