Do you want to study at FAU, but still have questions about this international experience? Check out the interview with our student Nicolas Souza.
1. What led you to take a course abroad? How did you find out about IBS Americas?
What led me was the opportunity to study finance in the United States. I found out about this opportunity through an email sent by my university.
2. What is your academic background, and what were your expectations for the international program?
I have a degree in Law and a strong interest in finance. I also expected to enhance my academic background while improving my English skills.
3. How did you choose the course and the university? What were the deciding factors for your choice?
The main factor was the location in Florida, in addition to being aligned with my area of interest.
4. What were the main challenges you faced being in another country, with a different language and classmates from various nationalities?
I believe the language barrier was a challenge at first. Adapting to a different lifestyle also brought some difficulties, but in the end, I think I adjusted very well.
5. How would you rate the quality of teaching, the infrastructure, and the resources offered by the university?
Excellent and outstanding — it’s like another world!
6. What were the main lessons and skills you developed during the course?
For me, interpersonal skills were key — especially the ability to adapt in a country where the language isn’t my own and where I met people I had never seen before. Without a doubt, this experience was a great opportunity to take a step out of my comfort zone.
7. What places did you have the opportunity to visit during your free time?
I visited Miami, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale, which allowed me to explore Florida’s famous theme parks.
8. How was your experience with the lectures and company visits?
They were amazing. I believe the company visits were very important for the course development, as they provided a practical perspective on the content we learned in class.
9. Were you able to expand your network during the course? Could you share a bit about that experience?
Yes, I met some very interesting people, and we’re still in touch after the trip!
10. How will this international experience impact your career?
I believe any international experience brings many opportunities and lessons. It also gave me more clarity to face the challenges in my career, such as defining direction and market focus.
11. What advice would you give to students and professionals who are thinking
Go for it — it’s an amazing experience, and with the support from IBS, it will be unforgettable.
