Do you want to study at ULV, but still have questions about this international experience? Check out the interview with our student Gabriela Santim.
1) What motivated you to take a course abroad? How did you find out about IBS Americas?
The main reason for my course was fulfilling my dream of studying abroad, and I was able to combine this dream with my goal of professional development, which was great! I learned about the program through the MBA in Business Management and Performance that I took at the State University of Maringá.
2) What is your academic background, and what were your expectations for the international program?
I have a bachelor’s degree in Trilingual Executive Secretariat, and when I joined the international program, my expectations were to expand my cultural horizons, gain a better understanding of international relations, experience a study routine outside my comfort zone, and deepen my knowledge of business.
3) How did you choose the course and university? What were the key factors in your decision?
I chose the Business Strategy course because it aligned with my goal of deepening my knowledge in the field. I found the study schedule interesting, and along with the Business English course, I was able to improve my language skills. The opportunity to combine strategy and English classes in a single program was one of the main factors that influenced my decision.
4) What were the main challenges you faced in another country, with a different language and classmates from various nationalities?
The biggest challenge for me was adapting and communicating. During the first few days, I took some time to feel comfortable and communicate well. However, over time, interactions became easier, and having classmates from different nationalities helped a lot, as everyone around me made an effort to talk, expand their vocabulary, and learn from one another.
5) How do you evaluate the quality of education, infrastructure, and resources provided by the university?
I was very pleased with the quality of education, with excellent and experienced professors. Another positive aspect was studying at a university with complete infrastructure, offering everything a high-quality educational institution should provide, with all the necessary student resources. The campus is very well maintained and includes a physical and virtual library, a gym, well-equipped classrooms, and highly qualified professors.
6) What were the main lessons and skills you developed throughout the course?
Among the key takeaways from the program, I highlight the global perspective on business and problem-solving through innovation. Participating in an international program helps us develop a more systemic and globalized view of the business world, as well as encourages us to think of initiatives that address relevant societal challenges—or even everyday problems. Additionally, we improve our ability to communicate and mediate discussions with people from different cultures and perspectives, which is incredibly valuable.
7) What places did you have the opportunity to visit during your free time?
During my free time, I explored many of Los Angeles’ tourist attractions, including Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach. I also took brief trips to Laguna Beach and San Clemente, two cities near Los Angeles.|
8) How were your experiences with the lectures and company visits?
I really enjoyed the lecture with Vivian Sobral, a Brazilian professional who has lived abroad for many years. She shared her career journey and the lessons she learned along the way. We also visited Haaker, a company specializing in equipment, where a conversation with the CEO provided valuable insights into organizational culture, product quality, and market expansion.
9) Were you able to expand your networking during the course? Could you share a bit about that experience?
Yes, I was able to build a good relationship with my classmates. We took advantage of breaks between classes to chat and discuss various topics. We also had lunch together almost every day, which was a great opportunity to exchange experiences, connect on social media, and build lasting connections.
10) How will this international experience impact your career?
This international experience broadened my horizons and contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth. Studying in another country allows us to see the world from a broader perspective and challenges us in many ways—stepping out of our routine and comfort zone, communicating in a different language, and embracing new experiences.
11) What advice would you give to students and professionals who want to take a course abroad with IBS Americas?
Go for it! It’s an incredible experience to be in another country, immersed in a different culture, studying in another language, developing yourself, and making the most of every moment. Plus, you’ll make new friends and grow professionally. It’s truly enriching!
