1. How did you hear about IBS Americas?
I found out about IBS Americas through my university, where I recently graduated. In my final year, I received information about the various courses offered by IBS on WhatsApp, and it really caught my interest.
2. What motivated you to take a course abroad?
I was motivated by how relevant the course was to my career path. The topics were fascinating, and the chance to live abroad and experience something new was also very appealing. The idea of studying in a different country, while embracing a new academic and cultural adventure, was a key factor in my decision.
3. What is your academic background, and what were your expectations for the international program?
I have a degree in Economics from INTEC University in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree at UNIBE University, also in the Dominican Republic. My main goals were to expand my knowledge in my field, improve my English in an academic setting, and gain an international perspective on the economy.
4. How did you choose the course and the university? What were the key factors in your decision?
I chose this course because the content aligned with my career goals and sparked my academic and personal interests. The university’s reputation also played a big role, as I’d received great feedback from both social media and people I know. The program’s academic quality, networking opportunities, and international experience were major factors in my choice, and the course length fit perfectly with my schedule, making the decision easier.
5. What were the main challenges you faced being in another country, with a different language and classmates from various backgrounds?
Initially, adjusting to English as the primary language was challenging since Spanish is my first language, and I usually only use English occasionally. But as time went on, I became more comfortable and improved my ability to communicate in English. Being around classmates from different nationalities was also enriching, as I learned new words and concepts, which made adapting easier and broadened my understanding.
6. How would you rate the quality of teaching, infrastructure, and resources at the university?
The university’s facilities were excellent, designed for both academic and campus life comfort. Resources like the libraries and technology were essential to my learning experience. The quality of teaching was very high, with knowledgeable and approachable professors who were always willing to help.
7. What were the main skills and knowledge you gained from the course?
During the course, I developed new financial skills and explored areas I hadn’t yet encountered in my career. I also expanded my financial vocabulary in English, which will support my growth in an international context. This program was crucial in refreshing and updating my economic and financial knowledge from a global perspective.
8. Where did you have a chance to visit during your free time?
In my free time, I visited the charming town of New Paltz, known for its unique architecture and beautiful natural surroundings. I also got to experience Times Square in New York as part of the course. It was an exciting trip where I not only had fun but also learned more about U.S. culture and lifestyle.
9. What were your experiences with lectures and company visits?
The lectures and company visits were incredibly enriching. The lectures complemented what we covered in class and allowed me to see how economic concepts apply in the real world. The company visits were also invaluable, giving me practical insight into how finance and economics function in the business world.
10. Were you able to expand your network during the course? Could you tell us about it?
Yes, I was able to expand my network considerably. I connected with both professors and classmates from various countries. It was fascinating to discuss the differences in financial and economic practices in each of their countries, helping me gain a better understanding of global economic realities.
