Recently, Perplexity, an artificial intelligence start-up, attracted attention after receiving an investment of $73.6 million from a group of investors. Among them, the name behind Amazon – Jeff Bezos, – as well as chipmaker Nvidia.
A lot of people have since asked how Perplexity’s AI works, so we set out to understand the key aspects of its chatbot and have put together the main facts for you in this article. Follow the guide and check it out!
What sets Perplexity apart?
In times of ChatGPT, Bard and so many others, you’d think that an AI backed by Jeff Bezos would have something different.
According to the startup’s own website, its AI isn’t just about answering questions, “it’s about empowering you to do more, whether it’s to summarize content, explore new topics, or even get a little creative.”
Among its highlights are:
● the depth of the information gathered: a feature that other AIs have lacked in their initial versions;
● organization of the research library: with the right to even invite collaborators to each library;
● interaction with the data generated: complete view by project without leaving the tool, allowing new searches to be carried out centrally, eliminating the need for other search engines and tools.
Here are some examples of its applications that we found in our research.
Quick Recipes
From an initial command such as “I need a recipe with 40 grams of protein and 5g of fiber using chicken and vegetables, with a spicy flavor”, Perplexity returns a compilation of information about the request, including links to recipes that fit the request, as well as the creation of a new recipe with a list of ingredients and how to prepare it.
In general, this response is much more complete than on ChatGPT, which does not cite sources for its creations, nor does it provide relevant links related to the search, making the new AI a search competitor for Google and, consequently, Bard.
Organization of collections
Another highlight of Jeff Bezos’ AI is the way it is organized, where you can create collections and organize threads by theme based on your interactions with the chat.
For example, still on the subject of recipes, you could organize a “recipe notebook” to inspire you in the kitchen. Or, if you’re learning something new, you can create a glossary with research done on that particular subject.
YouTube video search
If you are buying a coffee machine, for example, and need to collect information about the best models and brands, you can search through Perplexity and, from there, receive a list of videos on YouTube with product reviews.
In addition, Jeff Bezos’ AI summarizes in topics which videos you need to watch to learn more about each model you are considering.
Your searches will never be the same again!
Perplexity Copilot: one of the great promises of Jeff Bezos’ AI
The feature called Perplexity Copilot represents an evolution compared to other tools. Functioning as a research guide, it allows the interaction to go beyond quick and generic results, interacting with the user and easily adjusting responses according to individual need.

3 tips to know before using Perplexity
As with any new technology, the initial experience becomes much richer when we know its modus operandi in advance. Based on our initial research, here are 3 tips on how to explore Jeff Bezos’ new AI.
1 – Upload files to start the search
The platform suggests that, instead of just searching with generic questions, you upload files to get a more in-depth context for your search.
2 – Customize your profile and get answers based on what you want
In the initial settings, Perplexity allows you to set the language, the output format of the answers and even the tone of voice.
As you update your AI profile, Perplexity promises to deliver what you expect with even greater ease.
3 – Define the privacy of your threads and share it with anyone who needs it
By default, all threads in Perplexity are private. However, the tool allows you to share with others, paving the way for this new AI to work in the corporate world, being used by teams for project development and even studying.
With all its features, the high potential for use by corporate teams and new investment rounds coming up, it looks like we will be hearing a lot about Perplexity in the near future!
